Shah Rukh Khan Marketing Strategies

Even though the final outcome is yet to be known - OSO or Saawariya, which of the two performed better at the box office? My choice was clear - OSO was a stinker and Saawariya rocked. And no, this has nothing to with (hottie) Ranbir Kapoor’s butt.A few days ago, apna King Khan was accused by some BCCI organizers for using India-Pak cricket matches as publicity stunt for his newly released film. For those who aren’t familiar - Shah Rukh had attended the T20 World Cup Finals and was seen handing out music CDs of his, then to be released film, Om Shanti Om. And more recently, he was also present for the India-Pak ODI final held in Jaipur along with co-actress Deepika Padukone.Obviously the Bollywood badshah is quite miffed over these allegations.I was invited by the BCCI itself and I was very happy. But now I am disappointed. Henceforth, I shall send only my children for the games and will ask them not to mention who their father is. As for me, I'll avoid going for any cricket match altogether. [IndiaTimes]If you ask me, this situation reminds of a popular short children’s story, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”, well, sort of.Shah Rukh brilliantly used T20 finals as a publicity platform for OSO, for crying out loud; he even wore the film’s name on his chest. Now it’s a totally different thing that he ended up giving us The Wacko Jacko fright but hey, without any doubts, his presence at cricket matches has definitely got more to do than just an outing with kids. And when fingers were raised – to back your actions by saying… I am trying to make my children like sports in a nation where most parents are blamed for not encouraging their children to be sportsmen. How else do you think they will learn the beauty of sport? This, in my opinion, is quite lame. Seriously, who is he trying to fool here?I mean come one, everybody is aware of the fact that SRK leave no stone unturned when it comes to publicizing his films and OSO is his own production. According to me, the man should have simply taken the BCCI folks in confidence, handed them few free OSO tickets and merchandise rather than adding fuel to the fire. But maybe Shah Rukh’s marketing consultants think otherwise. As they say in Bollywood – “There is no such thing as bad publicity”.
